documentary & IMPACT Producer based IN BROOKLYN, NY
Kristin Kohlmeyer aims to ignite social consciousness and amplify the voices of survivors and activists in her work.
In 2020, she began her career in documentary filmmaking at Talos Films producing for a 3-part documentary series Teen Torture, Inc. on HBO Max. She then went on to associate produce for the three-part series Demons and Saviors for ABC News Studios + Hulu which tells the remarkable story of Christina Boyer– once infamously known as the “poltergeist girl,” now a woman convicted of murdering her three-year-old daughter. Thirty years into a life sentence, Christina still proclaims her innocence. The series follows a group of amateur sleuths who have become consumed by their obsession to exonerate her. Kristin’s recent projects include producing for ABC News Studios + Hulu’s series Age of Influence, where she played a key role in developing the series and in producing it. This six-part anthology examines the dark side of influencer culture through today’s biggest social media scandals. Kristin helmed an episode of the series that takes to task the exploitative nature of ‘momfluencers’, critiquing the concerning lack of protections for children and child performers online. She then worked as a segment producer for HBO Max’s Fallen Idols series, which foregrounds the stories of sexual assault survivors within the music industry, streaming on HBO Max.
Most recently, she co-produced a 10 part documentary series People of the West with Boardwalk Pictures and Pechanga Studios. For 500 years, the history of California has been told by those who conquered it. People of the West reclaims that story through Indigenous voices, blending cinematic reenactments and lived experience to uncover the truth behind the myth of the American West. Stay tuned for details around its release!
In her next chapter, Kristin is pursuing her certification as a Mental Health Coordinator as well as an additional Masters Degree in Social Work to further her goal as a mental health advocate in the entertainment space and elsewhere.
